Education reform - how better?
Every piece of writing has a cause. It is what is happening now that has revived my long-cherished thoughts on education reform:
- How can we orient and educate today's adolescents and teenagers with selfless help?
- What we should do as adults: as parents, teachers, employers?
- What are the consequences of not paying enough attention NOW to today's teenagers (10-19 years old)?
- Who cares about them, our present with our future in terms of values, economics?
Let me quote János Arany, Géza Gárdonyi...
LAnd the greatest goal, here on this earth, is to be human, always, in all circumstances.
János AranyI have you to thank, sir, for making me stand out from the beastly crowd! I have you to thank for the light of my understanding. You didn't raise me with a whip. with a good heart. You made me walk in your pretty dress, you made me sit at your table. And did you not teach me that a man's heart is the only way to earn a man's name?
Géza Gárdonyi: The Invisible Man
What made me write this piece on education reform?
The current occasion is when I heard that illicit drugs found in a high school.
This writing is special, because I'm addressing young and old adolescents, teachers, parents and educators alike, to make it a real-life, real-life story.
My aim is to call to action those who care about teenagers/adolescents.
As a parent, coach, mentor, teacher, I am involved in all roles. I want to do something for the present, to build the future, even as the head of an HR team of 1000 people.
What I consider essential is that what we do in the present on education reform, not where the drug case happened.
Before I get to the heart of it, let me quote one of my teachers who writes about the modern world today and the real power picture.
According to Dr David Hawkins, power-hungry individuals in the modern world are manipulating people, deliberately exploiting human weakness and feelings of vulnerability. For example, he manipulates patriotism, he profits from discord, religion is just a tool for him. It divides different personalities, destroys the vulnerable.
Surely there are Parents, who are concerned about your child's future, to keep your child safe.
I think it is likely that there are educators , who sincerely want to do something for education reform, so that today's teenagers remember them fondly, and I know that there are Mr-es, business leaders, who also consider emotional and intellectual education to be their business.
Let's see specifically what stakeholders see as helping, and what my point of view is!
I asked a group of thousands of teachers, if you could change one thing in education, what would you do?
Most of them were pushing for a reduction in the number of lessons, a reform of the curriculum as an educational reform. What really got me was that teachers would also make a difference for children.
What's on the minds of today's teenagers? What are they looking for?
"Let's be content with what we have now and never waste our precious time wondering why someone else has more, or even better, than us. He may be unhappier with more and better than he who has less, but for some reason has more valuable and priceless things at his fingertips." - Loretta
One student puts it this way:
- I live in a duality: I have a picture of what I see at school, and when I come home I see that I am recharged by the quality time that happens inside the home.
- Obligations take time away from us, they rob us of time to relax with our parents, with ourselves.
- There is no time to fill up, to love, to live life. To be able to enjoy our hobbies, or at least find what we want to do.
- Adults don't understand us, they always want to decide for us.
But there are teenagers who think so:
- My parents have given me financial security, I have everything, I don't have to worry about the future, my elders will help me out.
- I just want to have fun, and the digital world is a great platform for that. Hanging out with friends, my finger is already automatically tuned to the like button.
- I can have all the food, booze, cigarettes, and drinks I want, since my parents are at home, so at least I can pass the time, otherwise life would be so boring.
What initiatives are being taken in the World of Work to keep young people at home?
There are apprenticeship programmes, there are career guidance initiatives, there are life-like activities. But unfortunately, as we have seen from the children's comments above, these do not fully reflect what teenagers REALLY want.
In fact, the workload they live in, crying out for help, takes up more time, money and energy, because not everyone is happy with learning new skills, their heads are full of information.
Everyone must be motivated by something about the situation of adolescents in the present age, because if you look at the world of work, they write about nothing but the problems of the ages, the generational problems.
How do I see education reform and what do I think is the solution?
Dear reader, I don't think that children or anyone else should be blamed, and there is no room for blame at all.
Maybe I'll be better off if my neighbour's cow dies?
No, right?
Now that we agree that we need to act HERE and NOW, hopefully our values are similar.
What am I wondering about and why ?
Understanding comes only from wisdom, acceptance and compassion. Attacks and insults come from contradictory views and a lack of understanding of the REAL world.
"The ego is attached to its own truth, to profit, which is the prime motivator of all its intentions, goals and actions" - according to Dr.David Hawkins, and I can identify with this idea.
The ego clings to its beliefs in order to feel some sense of security and to use them as a basis for rational decisions and actions."
"He who is wise realizes that all human knowledge is at best a puffing up, a conjecture, and subject to subsequent adjustment. Even 'facts' are provisional statements, since the interpretation of data depends on circumstances and can therefore be reinterpreted later."
How do I see education reform from a professional point of view?
Here I would like to make it clear that there is no one right solution to education reform, and what I am writing is based on my 25-35 years of experience, and an opinion, a point of view, supported by the examples above.
A the soul of the company is the workforce and the TiniTrend (copyrighted) programmes were created to help solve dilemmas, problems and concerns.
I believe that there is light and treasure in everyone, and I can help you find the beauty of individuality.
Integration into work is a major difficulty, if the majority stay at all. They don't think much about it, for years teachers have been complaining in droves that they can't even handle 5th graders. All addiction starts earlier than a few years - decades ago.
There are already media reports about labour problems, that young people often take work lightly, that there is no respect, no proper values. Today's teenagers, by the time they are fit for work, will not even show up for their first day of work without a word of warning because they have found something more lucrative.
What do I notice in education as a parent?
Dangers, things that stretch your wallet. Increased rates of depression, alcoholism, drug abuse and other addictions among young people.
Why?
They send signals to us, to adult society, only we adults misinterpret them. Based on this set of information, we believe that children need different educational training, that is, more information.
Modernisation is something we adult humans have created, but we do not develop emotionally or personally. Acceptance, humility, community-building have been replaced by anger, resentment, envy, competition, "pretend-mindedness"...
Hungary is ranked 11th in the world in terms of suicide statistics.
I wonder why?
Teachers also see that teenagers are fed up with being handed information, and that young people's cries for help are a distraction: emotional care, quality time, attention, love.
Families are falling apart, parents are tired of the constant pushing and shoving, and they don't even realize the REAL need, because they don't even know what they need anymore.
We have created an emotion-deprived, emotion-poor society. Profit, competition and survival are at the centre, and we have forgotten our true humanity, as János Arany wrote, to be human in all circumstances.
Perhaps the school psychologists can also tell us that there are more and more children with insomnia who are receiving special treatment, their nervous systems exhausted along with ours.
To counteract these, we "exercise" the creative brain in my clients - based on different "brain theories".
People who give feedback like this:
- liven up and makes you think" (middle manager)
- I can feel that I'm starting to feel the energy (senior manager)
- enthusiasmI am happy to meet you because I know it will be good, (specialist, entrepreneur)
- inspire, and makes you think (company director)
- no matter what you call teen orientation Titanilla, I know that in the right direction you lead the children..
How do I feel about education reform as an educator?
Teaching colleagues are desperate, clueless and feel hopeless about the current state of education reform.
What is the education reform solution?
- The spiritual, intellectual orientation of teenagers to become stronger in the "waves".
- Teachers' emotional charge to find the serenity from which they can build strength and not struggle daily to survive.
- Parents facilitator support either from a psychologist, coach, counsellor etc.. instead.
Real business support, where companies and businesses selflessly support young people's journeys.
How to start the reforms?
This article would not be enough to explain the programme. It doesn't need tools, just humanity, openness and love.
We need to work together! Here I call on those concerned, if they feel enough BACITY, perseverance and openness to support the programme and the cause, to spread the word, let's work together for a better future for the JELEN!!!
I close my article with Dezső Kosztolányi
True love is modest. True love sets aside, leaves the one it makes happy, lets his soul float free, let it fly its own way, let it find what it is meant to find. This love wants nothing in return. This love is sufficient for itself, and therefore infinite. This love knows that nothing belongs to us, not the body of others, not the soul of others, not even the soul of our own children.
I wish you a good day,
Titanilla
